And running the kitchen is a Makoto alum

It’s not every day that a New York city Cuban eatery makes its way to Miami, but such is the case with newcomer, Son Cubano, which originally got its start in the Northeast and has officially opened its doors in Miami at 2530 Ponce de Leon Blvd. yesterday.

Leading the kitchen is Stephen Starr Restaurants vet Benjamin Tellez, who has done stints and Makoto and Le Zoo before heading the kitchen at Son Cubano. The extensive menu features plenty of Cuban items with Asian flavors like Lechon Asado with spicy sour chili mojo, Cuban Egg Roll with slow roasted pork, Swiss cheese and karashi sauce; and Chorizo sliders with miso sauce.

The two-floor space features a dining room and bar on the first floor that are reminiscent of 1950s Cuba. While on the second floor features a cigar lounge and bar, decorated in warm colors warm, exposed brick walls and dangling chandeliers.
