Exile Doubles Capacity

Des Moines’ Exile Brewing Company nears completion on 3,800 sq ft. expansion. Ground was broke in September 2016 and is on track to complete March 2017. The expansion will add nine 120 barrel fermentation tanks and one 120 barrel brite tank, as well as a canning line, increased storage, and an updated beer garden. After project completion, the 2015 Great American Beer Festival Gold Medal winning brewery will have increased their capacity to 35,000 bbls.

“We have been steadily growing the last four years and the way we looked at it we could stay at the capacity we were at or we could keep growing our brand and company. Everyone on our team believed we could be successful if we kept growing.” said Exile Brewing’s Founder, R.J. Tursi.

12 oz and 16 oz cans will be filled on a rotary pressure filler and a full-time quality manager will continue to develop QA/QC standards as the brewery expands its packaging portfolio.

The brewery resides in the old F.W. Fitch Company warehouse that was once a staple in Des Moines for producing personal care products for decades in the early 1900’s. With an investment of $3 million for the expansion it was essential to Exile Brewing that the history and the integrity of the building be preserved. They worked with the National Park Service to make sure all the materials that were being used would reflect the original building.

With continued success and demand this expansion was crucial for the growth of Exile. Now with distribution in the entire state of Iowa they will be able to fulfill the needs of their distributors and customers, while continuing to bring quality beer to the market.
